Rob Prohaska ‘04 takes over as interim head coach for the 2017-18 season. He has served as an assistant coach to the program for the past two seasons. He brings a wealth of experience as he has been involved in volleyball as a player or coach for the past 23 years. As a coach he has served at the high school and club level. He has coached at Second City and Adrenaline volleyball clubs and is currently part of the coaching staff as the head boys’ 18U coach for Division One Volleyball Club. He served as an assistant coach for the boys’ team at Marist High School for five seasons from 2008-12. During his time there the team earned four conference championships, three regional championships, two sectional championships, and IHSA state quarterfinal appearance and a state championship title.
As an athlete Prohaska played for Trinity in the 2001 and 2003 seasons and ranks in the top seven in the records book in total kills and blocks. Previous to Trinity he competed for two seasons at Moraine Valley Community College where he earned Most Valuable Player and Best Offensive Player honors. In addition, Prohaska was a four-year student-athlete at Marist High School and received all-conference and all-state honorable mention recognition. He also played for Second City Volleyball Club for four years.
Rob graduated from Trinity in 2004 with a bachelor’s degree in physical education. He earned his master’s degree in school counseling from Concordia University. He is currently working as a licensed professional counselor. He lives with his wife and three children in Palos Heights, Illinois.
Gerard Weik has been a part of the men’s volleyball coaching staff since its start in the 2015-16 season. In addition to assisting the men’s team, he is also an assistant coach for the women’s volleyball teams. Weik has a wealth of coaching experience at the collegiate and club levels. For ten years he was involved with the women’s and men’s volleyball programs at Lewis University in Romeoville, Illinois. During his time with the Flyers their men’s team claimed a conference championship and Final Four appearance in 2012 and their women’s team earned regular season champion titles for six years and were tournament champions three times.
For the past ten years Weik has been involved as a coach and assistant director for Celtic Force Volleyball. He was also been a part of Chicago Volleyball Club for four years. In addition he served two years as the boys’ volleyball coach at Lockport High School.
Weik is the facility manager at Palos Courts. He and his wife Lindsay reside in Alsip, Illinois.
Jason Herrmann joined the coaching staff this season. He is not new to Trinity as he was a part of the men’s volleyball program in the 2001 and 2002 seasons. He has been actively involved with coaching volleyball for more than 15 years. He currently is the assistant girls’ volleyball coach at Joliet West High School, a position he has had for four seasons. He has also been the head coach of the boys’ volleyball team at Joliet West for ten years. At Joliet his boys’ team had three 20-plus win seasons, earned a regional champs title, and had a Super 16 finish. In addition, Herrmann has coached girls’ and boys’ volleyball at Plainfield Central High School, where his team won the conference championship, and at Carl Sandburg High School.
Herrmann also has coaching and administration experience in club volleyball. He served as the Assistant Boys Director at Uno Volleyball Club from 2010-12, head coach at Uno for boys’ 16’s and 18’s teams from 2012-17, the Midwest Regional Director for Volleyball Professionals Camps and Classes from 2000-2010, and the Tournament Director for the EVP Tour Beach Volleyball Series in 2005-2006.
Herrmann graduated from Trinity Christian College in 2002 with a bachelor’s degree in physical education. He earned a master’s degree in K-12 Technology from Nova Southeastern University (FL) and a Type 75 Administration Certificate from Lewis University. He teaches physical education and driver’s education at Joliet West. He is married to Jennifer and has four sons, Luke, Andrew, Eric, and Joseph (who passed away in 2013).
Nick Costa made the transition from student-athlete to the coaching staff this season. He was a member of the Trolls’ volleyball for the 2016 and 2017 season, where he started as an outside hitter and served as team captain. In his two seasons at Trinity he accumulated 369 kills for a 2.46 kill average. Previous to Trinity he played one season at Dominican University (IL). He also played for Chicago Volleyball Club for three years. In addition to assisting Trinity’s team, Costa is a volunteer assistant coach for the boys’ volleyball team at Richards High School, his alma mater.
Costa graduated from Trinity in December 2017 with a bachelor’s degree in business. He is the son of Alan and Jennifer Costa of Oak Lawn, Illinois.
